red velvet cupcake ftw!!!

a few months back, i mentioned that i wanna try to bake red velvet cupcakes, but cos my oven was spoilt, i did not manage to do it. but, my family recently bought a new oven! *beams* so, i can finally bake it for real!! called on yi hong to join me in my red velvet baking adventure on tues, and i have to say, it went pretty well! (minus some minor hiccups here and there though). lol

these were the ingredients for red velvet cuppiecakes!

lol could not manage to squeeze both our heads tgt with the ingredients lol

so, we took it seperately!

LETS START!! yays to electric mixer!!

mix chunks of butter and flour

i forgt some of the steps alr, so i guess i will just blog abt what comes to mind. one of the steps was to mix the cocoa powder tgt with red colouring before pouring them into the dough mixture. so while yi hong was busy with the electirc mixer, i went to do the red colouring. used the liquid colouring yh bought, but i realised it was not enough to turn the cocoa powder into liquid! (it has to be watery enough to become fluid form). was thinking why the red colouring did not flow out of the bottle when i poured it, and only realised ltr that it was finished! lol so i was in frantic mode cos i did not know what to do alr. luckily my mom had the red colour dye (those used to make red eggs during birthdays), so i just used the powder form and mixed with water and poured it into the cocoa powder. did not measure the water and red colouring used then cos i was totally in panic mode. so i prob spammed alot of colouring. LOL relieved when i saw the cocoa powder turned into fluid form thereafter. hahaaha it was not that bad afterall.

ok, it was not that watery la, cos in contact with air, the fluid kind of harden quite fast. so by the time we poured the 2 into the dough mixture, it has alr become like this: lol looked abit like sai right!~ 红色的大便!!!!

but after it was mixed, woo!~ it became a rich and pretty deep red colour. yh and i were both amazed looking at this. lol

so, after the mixture was whisked, we had to transfer them into the muffin tray!!

put them into the oven!!!! next, we had to do the frosting. yes, this cupcake was tedious cos there were 2 different parts to make. i was not familiar at all for the frosting cos most of the time, i only bake the muffin by itself. and yh nvr bake before. so yeah~ we were really playing and testing ard. lol. so now the frosting!!! we were told to heat flour and milk in a saucepan until it became a paste. we had difficulty mixing the 2 tgt cos the flour kind of clumped tgt when we mixed them up! *panic mode again*. lol but after some stirring and heating, we gt the paste as instructed!

*a weak and not very confident smile there* lol

stir stir stir!!

yes, the first batch of the cupcakes was done!! so happy us, esp when we saw the cupcakes rose and when we smelled the familiar oh-so-nice-cupcake-smell from the oven!!! ahhhh!~

left them out to cool!!

table was messyyyy!!

ok, so after the frosting was done up, we had to squeeze the frosting onto the cupcakes! i thought this was going to be relatively easy cos those people on baking shows always do the frosting so effortlessly, but how wrong was i!! it was super tedious cos u need to control and squeeze the appropriate amount into the small area of the cupcake, all the while making sure that the frosting looks nice.

this was my attempt at squeezing the frosting out. lol super fail. look at the 2nd pic on the left, i was like, "HAHAHAA why i squeezed until like that one?!?"

ok, so either i sucked at squeezing the frosting, or it was really difficult. off to yh! she made it much nicer than me!! ok, so this means that i totally lack the skill to do frosting lol

after some time, we decided that squeezing the frosting out from the plastic wrap was too tedious and turned out yucky. lol so i suggested to scoop the frosting cream using 2 spoons and spread it on top of the cupcake itself. and yes, it was much much easier and better!!

presenting to u guys, our end product!!!:):)

the "wow-i-nvr-thought-i-could-make-red-velvet-myself-look" O.O hahhaa

yay!!!:):)

sprinkled some colourful dotty sprinkles on top to make it more beautiful!!

woo!~ look at the pretty red velvet body. isint it tempting and mouth-watering? hahahhaha

ok this was one of our failed attempt in making a love shaped red velvet cake. i think we put the frosting when the cupcake was just out from the oven, so the frosting kind of melted and it was a yucky mess. decided to scrape off the frosting to salvage it, but it was too unsalvagable by then. lol so we decided to share this failed heart shaped red velvet between ourselves. lol the ones baking always get the worst bit. lol

ok, so we gt my mom and sis to try!! my mom only gave it a 6 pointer, she preferred the strawberry jello tarts more. lol my sis was much better, she gave a 8 pointer! my bro gave a 7.5. lol so i can safely say that its not bad? haahhaha

yay to us! tired faces!

thats abt it for my red velevt adventure!! baking cakes is really a tedious job! ingredinets are not cheap, and there are alot of steps to follow. also, not forgetting the greasy cleanup after that! (which i absolutely hate). so i only do it when i really feel like baking!! lucky i had yh with me that day, if not i would be more frantic and my cupcake might not have turned out that way:):)

now off to some happenings this week too!

my dad cooked this new veggie dish for dinner one day. so i was asking him "what is this 紫色的菜 called?" and my dad took some time to think before answering "紫菜". hhahhaha

saw my name in one of the stores in kovan shopping mall! go visit if u guys can! hhahha~

ok that's it for now!! the next post will prob be my bkk post, cos i will be flying there next monday! cant wait! haha till then everyone! stay happy!!
